Santa Ana street was first marked for cutting ... Orange paint was appied, and a wet asphalt cutting machine pre-cut the length of the street before any of the asphalt was dug up.

The ballast is wet down before it is packed. This also helps to keep the dust down.

They have a mini street sweeper that kicks up all sorts of dust left from the Cats after they dump ballast on the new track. The water truck wets everything down before the tamper and regulator do their jobs. This helps keep the dust down, and also helps to prevent dust particles that could ignite from sparks. One of the supervisors radios to the rest of the crew, "No more rocks, tamper the center line and head home"
