Glendale - CP Currier - Site of the Metrolink accident on 01/26/05 .. Photos taken 01/30/05
A photo of a ballast regulator and a laser track tamper machine working on the rail at CP Currier. *The photo has an incorrect date of the accident - I will fix that later.
A few welded rail bogeys lay beside the mainline near the grade crossing at Cesar Chavez.
Coast Line photos taken south east of La Conchita along the Highway 101
As we got closer I was able to snap some digital captures of the MOW crew working. There were a few crews out along the line. This group was working near the row moving debri and dirt around. The B end of the MPM111 machine is visible in the photo also.
A we were heading north on 101 watching the tracks (Jeff was watching the road thankfully) there was an accident in the left lane. As luck would be, it was right where the MPM111 Herzog machine was being used to trench along the row.
The big arm of the Cat reaching for dirt.
More of the tractors and dozers doing their thing to clear debri
We were moving north and the MPM111 was coming into better view. The machine is very unique for todays modern railroad equipment, but the concept seems to be similar to ideas explored by the logging industry. (fact pointed out by Bob H from Railroadforums.com)
For those familiar with highway 101, this off ramp sign should give you a good idea of where we were at and they were working... also you can see 3 of the articulated welss for the dirt and debri.
A couple more of the well cars and the scooper as it digs along the cliff side below the side of the cars.
Te well cars are hiding behind the shrubbery, but this is a better view of the scooper mechanism. This appears to be controlled by the operator on the A side of the machine.
As we passed by I waved to the operator, and he looked over and saw me taking photos from the passing vehicle, and waved back with a smile.
The MPM111 A-end. Not sure what sort of engine this has, but my guess is that it is housed under the long hood on this end of the machine.
