| BNSF - Fullerton, CA 02/11/05 | BNSF 3rd La Mirada which works daily (M-F) on this line derailed an engine Friday afternoon. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| BNSF 2614 resting on its belly after hopping a switch on the east end of the Kimberly Ave yard. | They appear to have been shoving a few tank cars of corn syrup east towards State College when the incident happened. | The rail on the main branchline was pulled up clean from the ties and rolled on its side by the weight of the rear truck. | A better view of the rail. Notice the engine is resting on the track. | ||||||||||||||||||
| A few more images of the current state of the track and engine. | Front truck off the rail | Another photo of the front truck and some broken rail or something that was laid next to the wheel. | A shot of the rear truck. You can notice the turned rail and the rail spikes hanging in the air | ||||||||||||||||||
| More of the front truck. Any guess as to what the peice of rail is from? | More of the front truck. | More of the rear truck (engineer's side) and the tweaked rail. | Close up of the rear truck and the wheel and rail spikes | ||||||||||||||||||
| Front end and rear end of the engine resting on the rails. | The center peice of the truck was turned up from the weight of the engine. Not sure what that is called. | And another close up of the front truck which I am speculating what jumped the switch. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Final shot of the front truck. | The tank cars they were shoving. | ||||||||||||||||||||

The engine was shut down and the 3rd La Mirada returned to La Mirada with the empties from Kimberly Clark and 1 engine. Rolling through Fullerton station around 4 pm according to observations from the platform. This will be interesting to see when they fix this. As you can see the engine is completley off the rail so a crane will have to be brought in to lift it, and the switch will most likely have to be replaced. ... This is most likely a result of the condition of the branchline light rail on this line. The crew switches here daily (M-F) and are very familiar with how to work along this line. I highly doubt there was a error on their part.
